“Let food be thy medicine”
More than 2000 years ago, Hippocrates knew that food was crucial for glowing good health. Somewhere along the way we have drifted away from this and have allowed our doctors to take control. While there is absolutely a place in our life for the medical profession, I believe that by using food as our medicine we can have a much greater influence on our own health. In light of this I would like to revisit the notion of habits. Prevailing wisdom is that in order to keep your metabolism burning high, one must eat several meals daily, every few hours. While this may work great for some, it is not the only way to eat. For some, eating that frequently can lead to over eating. It can also dull your ability to tune in to your actual feelings of true hunger. What I am proposing now is to take a minute before you eat something, whether it is a scheduled meal, that pastry with your latte or popcorn at the movies. Take a moment and think about why you are eating. I think you will find that most of your food consumption is based on habit rather than hunger. Learning to retune in to your body’s signals might start you on a path of better nutrition which leads to better health. If you need some help getting on the right nutritional path, I can help. Get in touch and together we can make it happen. Remember, I am listening.
