Why Go On Retreat? 5 Reasons to Join a Therapy Retreat
5 Reasons People Choose Go On A Retreat
To Reconnect with Yourself and Your Relationship
Life is full of distractions, work, family, home repairs, financial concerns, etc. Our minds are filled with thoughts, shoulds, and musts on a constant loop. The loop does not allow us to focus on ourselves or our relationships. We might carve out 20 min here or there. However, the two most important relationships, those with ourselves and our partners, are lost in the business of life. Engaging in a retreat offers opportunities to focus on what matters most. While leading retreats I have enjoyed watching couples holding hands, walking together, sharing their lives, and reconnecting. I have also enjoyed watching individuals take time to sit in the sun, reset themselves, gaze at the stars and recenter themselves. This has long-lasting benefits on our health and relationships.
2. Detox From Digital Distractions
Our lives are chalked full of electronics. We are inundated with phones, computers, televisions, watches, etc. These digital devices influence every aspect of our lives. This inundation has impacted levels of anxiety, depression, and disconnection. Research continues to flow out regarding the damage the digital age has had and will continue to have on our health. Taking time to detox from this inundation is important and needed to allow our minds, souls, bodies, and relationships to reset and reconnect IRL. Retreats allow us to do this in a way that we don’t miss the distractions and are fed in healthy ways as we detox.
3. Access to Experts
During our retreats you are fed physically by our amazing staff, you have access in a small group setting and individually to a therapist and a yoga instructor to work with you in a small group or individually. Most therapist offices have waiting lists which can take up to a year to get in. Once in therapy, you have weekly or bi-weekly appointments making slow progress. The retreat speeds up this process by covering about 3 months of therapy in one weekend. Yoga classes are often packed with you unable to get individual attention. The small group of the retreat setting and individual attention allow you to ask questions and get your needs met by our expert. All the meals are homemade by our staff, planned to fuel your body, and designed to meet your dietary needs.
4. Get Into a New Environment
Retreats are held in a mountain setting where you will hear the roar of the river, sounds of nature, and the wind in the trees. I feel my soul being nourished and fed every time I am on retreat. Starting with the morning sunrise yoga and ending with star gazing around the fire. Extensive research has been conducted demonstrating how creativity increases, connections are created, blood pressure is lowered, anxiety is lessened, and depression is decreased during time in nature. This environment improves the overall outcome of the therapy you are engaged in due to the mind and body’s ability to fully focus and be open to the process of change.
5. Meet Like-Minded People
Retreats bring together others seeking to build connection, reset their lives, find empowerment and build their resilience. Each individual is working towards common goals with other retreat members. Group settings provide opportunities for individuals to step into vulnerability and open up to gaining support on their journey. When you see your struggles and successes mirrored in others around you, you are reminded of the deep friendships and connections made throughout life. It is a wonderful feeling to be supported and to be a support for others on their journey.
